SwimSafer Stage 1 Award:
Swimsafer Stage 1 Award, the first stage of the SwimSafer Programme aims to foster confidence and encourage children to be independent in the pool. Children can gain knowledge about water safety, the correct techniques in entering and exiting a pool safely, and moving frontward and backward in the water.
Entries & Exits | Enter water safely and confidently with slide In entry and exit using ladder and from pool edge. |
Sculling & Body Orientation | Recover from a face down float/glide to a standing position Recover from a back float/back glide to a standing position Introduce Flotation Survival Technique |
Underwater Skills | Submerge in waist depth water, open eyes and blow bubbles. |
Movement/ Swimming/Strokes | Forward movement 10m Introduce Backward movement 5m |
Survival & Activity skills | Support body in an upright position and signal distress. Grasp a flotation aid being thrown for support. Pulled to safety. Wear clothing, correctly fit a PFD, jump into the water, float for 30 seconds and then climb out of deep water. |
Knowledge | Rules of behaviour in, on/near the water. Water safety knowledge at a pool. |
